| Dr. Hiro Amekura is currently a Chief Researcher of Photon and Ion Beam Physics Group, National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan. After getting the degree of the Master of Science from the University of Tokyo in 1991, he joined National Research Institute for Metals (NRIM) and received the degree of PhD in 1999. Since 2001, he is a member of NIMS. His research interest covers ion irradiation effects on materials, particularly the effects on optical properties of nanomaterials such as nanoparticles, from basic understanding of ion-solid interactions toward applications to modification and control of the materials’ properties. Recent interest moves toward irradiation effects of swift heavy ions. Currently, he is the representative of ion-beam symposium, Materials Research Society of Japan (MRS-J).
